From October to February, the Space Frames festive installation by Studio Mieke Meijer illuminated Coal Drops Yard. These giant sculptural lights were hung en masse from the kissing roof designed by Thomas Heatherwick Studio and were placed around Granary Square and Kings Boulevard creating beautiful graphic beacons.
Now the Space Frames have been reinstalled as a series of seating installations throughout Coal Drops Yard.
The Space Frames are a modular system made up of arcs and columns that can be pieced together to create different shapes. Studio Mieke Meijer have returned to Coal Drops Yard to design purpose-made metal benches above which sit giant Space Frame arches. This re-purposing of the Coal Drops Yard Space Frames creates new areas for visitors to rest and provides vantage points from which to view the surrounding architecture. At night, the illuminated seating adds welcoming and comfortable places for the public to gather.
Enjoy taking a seat and experiencing this calming yet mesmerising installation.
