Space Frames by Studio Mieke Meijer
In and around Coal Drops Yard
The giant sculptural lights, Space Frames, that are placed in and around Coal Drops Yard during the festive period are the work of Eindhoven-based design studio Mieke Meijer. The dynamic installation responds to the architecture of their Coal Drops Yard location, tracing the arches and mimicking the graphic outlines of coal drops industrial structures. The Space Frames act as design landmarks, drawing you towards and beneath them, and as beacons visible across the landscape of Coal Drops Yard, Granary Square and beyond.
Spiritland presents An Aural History of Kings Cross
Music mecca and Coal Drops Yard resident Spiritland is curating a live music set for the launch of Coal Drops Yard on 1st November. Here’s what they have in store.
An Aural History of Kings Cross – 6-7pm
Spiritland has commissioned an original composition from two accomplished London-based composers and producers for the launch of Coal Drops Yard. The DJ Osymyso and Charlotte Hatherley composition is an original half-hour piece of music incorporating thematic elements from the history of King’s Cross, with the main focus being on Coal Drops Yard: from its industrial origins, through the clubbing years, up to today. The composition will be performed live (1st) and played back (2nd-4th) across the site and will also be available
to stream/download after the event on the Spiritland and King’s Cross websites. The performance will be in the main yard and will be accompanied by a laser show.
Benji B – 7-8.30pm
One of the UK’s most respected DJs and Radio 1 presenter, Benji B, will be filling the yard with music covering everything from soulful electronic music to hip-hop, house and beyond.
Special Guests Live Performance – 8.30-9pm
A final performance to bring the house down.
